The Destiny Whisperer’s Secret.

People often ask me why I’m able to connect so quickly with others. Let me reveal my secret right up front. [Drum Roll please!] I’m interested, and I try to be interesting. This seems to be a rare quality among born-again Christians.
How does the outside world look at born-again Christians? I think, for the most part, they see us as “Boring Again Christians.” But when I read the gospels, I don’t see a boring Jesus. When He spoke to the woman at the well (John 4), He was interested and interesting. Everything He taught was challenging, exciting, and thought-provoking. He was always relevant. Thousands gathered to hear what He had to say!
Interested or interesting?
I’m not talking about drawing a crowd or preaching to the masses. How about engaging your neighbor or talking with someone at a party? People run when they find out that you’re a Christian because all they think you’re going to do is corner them and say, “If you died tomorrow…” Really? Is this the best we can do?
Boring Sundays?
Not only do I think that we are boring, but I also think many Christians are bored. I can say that with a great deal of credibility because a Gallup survey in 2023 showed that 30% of Christians left the church. I’m sure you can find at least 25 to 100 articles on the internet as to why this is happening. But how about we just hone in on one simple concept or idea today?
People want more than a superficial hug or a friendly handshake from an usher welcoming them on Sunday. Clever acronyms aren’t cutting it anymore. Church today feels like a microwave dinner—quick, convenient, but ultimately unsatisfying.
“To fall in love with God is the greatest romance; to seek Him, the greatest adventure; to find Him, the greatest human achievement.” — St. Augustine
In short, people want to interact, be engaged, and be connected. They want to be involved and challenged. And I don’t mean being involved by having to sign up to “do” something for God like weeding the garden or cleaning the bathroom.
While there is nothing wrong with these activities, I don’t believe they’re very stimulating.

Creating a Space for Simple Intimacy
Imagine this: your living room, filled with the aroma of fresh coffee and lively conversation. You’ve just turned it into a sanctuary for simple intimacy, where hearts open and minds meet. All it takes is a book and a willingness to dive deep.
Picture a weekly book discussion, right in your home. We have people from all over the country and internationally, on a video platform. It’s more than just a gathering; it’s a warm embrace of open dialogue. Friends, family, even that neighbor you’ve been meaning to connect with, all coming together in a space that says, “You’re safe here. Your voice matters.”
As thoughts are shared, magic happens. Opinions flow freely, questions bubble up, and conversations dive deep into themes, theology and life. It’s not just about the book; it’s about the connection, the shared journey.
Respectful listening becomes the heartbeat of these discussions. Differing viewpoints aren’t just tolerated; they’re celebrated. Every perspective is a thread in the tapestry of community. You learn from each other, grow together, and your world expands.
So, open your home and your heart, and watch as simple intimacy blooms into something beautiful and profound. Because in the end, it’s about the connections, the moments we create together, and the journey we embark on as a community in Christ.
I’m genuinely curious to learn about some of the ways you connect. I think that exchanging our experiences can lead to more meaningful conversations and ideas. Please feel free to offer your thoughts, perspectives, and suggestions, if they are expressed respectfully.
Engage!
But here’s my challenge for today, my call to action, and it’s simple. You can either be like Jesus and be Interested and Interesting or like Captain Kirk and Engage! Whichever you choose, let’s stop being bored and Boring-Again Christians!
