Do you know that there’s a hidden influence in your life?
I recently watched a video of how identical twins with identical DNA can grow up entirely different because of their environmental influences. What! This perked my curiosity to find out more. Well wouldn’t you want to know WHY?
The reason is Epigenetics.
Imagine your body is like a big library with lots and lots of books. Each book represents a gene that tells your body how to grow and work. Now, the word “epi” means “on top of” or “around.” With the word “genetics,” it becomes Epigenetics. This is a process similar to special rules or signs that decide which books (or instructions) in your body get read and which ones stay closed. They can be good or harmful to your body.
Divinely Created
I was never a good science student in my younger days, but I have come to appreciate how wonderful our bodies are. The Divine Creator constructed our bodies so wonderfully amazing. Did you know that every single cell has microscopic parts? Absolutely mind blowing!
David stated in Psalm 139:14, “I praise you (meaning God), because I am wonderfully and fearfully made.” We have been blessed with amazing bodies and are responsible for caring for them.
So, how should we care for our bodies?
- Eat healthily. Try not to make fast food a habit.
- Exercise regularly. Don’t sit around—get up and walk!
- Say no to harmful addictions such as smoking and excessive alcohol.
- Know your family’s health history, especially regarding conditions like heart problems.
Trauma and the environment we live in can also affect epigenetics—and it’s not just about physical health but our emotional and spiritual health too.
The Power of the Mind
Did you know that the brain can change itself in response to things that happen in our environment? Our thoughts can change the way our brains work too. It’s very important to be aware of how stress and life circumstances can affect us. Keep your eyes and thoughts on things that build joy, hope, and emotional well-being.
“Watch your thoughts, for they become words… What we think, we become.” — Margaret Thatcher
Isn’t that the truth? Mind what you see, hear, say, and mind who you keep company with. Our thoughts, attitudes, and emotions create energy fields. These fields affect our health and outlook on life, but also our relationships and experiences with others, even if you’re just in the same room.
The Impact of Joy
Proverbs 17:22 states, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” When did you last have a good belly laugh? Didn’t that feel good? I believe we should have one every day. There’s nothing like a joyful spirit to keep the mind free of woe.
What’s a brain’s favorite country music group?
Lady Cerebellum!
Okay, maybe not the best for a belly laugh, but I tried.
As I said earlier, our thoughts, attitudes, and emotions create energy fields. These fields affect our health and outlook on life, as well as our relationships and experiences with others—even if you’re just in the same room.
Check out the atmosphere when you walk into a different environment.
Can we change our personal, social, or even worldly environments to create the one we want?
Yes, we can!
Stay tuned and discover next time!
